Shenzhen has ranked 1st in the urban health development index in the Blue Book of Cities in China: Annual Report on Urban Development of China No. 13.

The report was jointly published by the Institute of Ecological Civilization of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Social Sciences Academic Press.

Based on the analysis of the problems and challenges faced by China’s urban health development, the blue book systematically evaluates the status of urban health development in China based on the cities’ economy, society, culture, environment and management related to health.

According to the 2019 evaluation results, the top 10 cities in the urban health development index are: Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Changsha, Zhuhai, Hangzhou, Foshan and Xiamen.

As for the geographical spread of the 10 cities, one is from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, three are from the Yangtze River Delta, five come from the Pearl River Delta and one is from Central China.

According to the data, 37 Chinese cities were in a relatively healthy state in 2019, accounting for 12.85 percent of the total number of cities in China.

The blue book points out that compared with 2018, the “weak point” of China’s urban health development has been alleviated, with two more cities meeting the standards of a healthy city.
