Pengcheng Cloud Brain II ranks first in the IO500 rankings and the 10 Node Challenge with scores of 7,043.99 and 1,129.75, respectively, according to the new issue of the IO500 list released during the Supercomputing Conference 2020 (SC20) on Thursday, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

This is the first time that a domestic computing system has occupied the top of the list, reported the Daily.

IO500 is one of the most authoritative world rankings for storage performance in the field of high-performance computing. Since November 2017, the IO500 list has been released at top conferences in the field of high-performance computing (SC in the U.S. and ISC in Germany).

In order to prove the world-class advanced computing power of Pengcheng Cloud Brain II, Pengcheng Laboratory, Tsinghua University and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. jointly carried out an IO500 test, which covers data bandwidth BW (GiB/S) and metadata performance MD (KIOP/S).

The outstanding performance of Pengcheng Cloud Brain II in the IO500 test reflects that the computing system is application-oriented.

Additionally, the score of the whole system was four times higher than that of last year’s champion. In the 10 Node Challenge targeting small-scale data processing, the system’s score also exceeded nearly half of that of last year’s champion, becoming the first system that scored more than 1,000 points in the challenge.

Pengcheng Cloud Brain II was completed and put into trial operation in October 2020. It boasts an AI computing power of 1,000 PFLOPS and will serve a wide range of fields from basic research to industrial empowerment.

According to public data, the AI computing subsystem of Pengcheng Cloud Brain II contains 4,096 AI processors, providing AI computing capabilities of 1E OPS FP16 and 2E OPS INT8 theoretically.

The general computing power is composed of 2,048 central processing units (CPUs). Each CPU provides general computing power of no less than 0.49T Flops.
