Qatar Airways launches a sea-to-air ferry transfer service from Shekou Cruise Home Port to the SkyPier of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) today, providing passengers in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) convenient access to the airline’s global network.

The introduction of the upstream check-in service will allow customers of Qatar Airways in Shenzhen greater flexibility and enhance travel options to the world from Hong Kong, where the airline operates daily direct service to Doha with its modern and fuel-efficient Airbus A350-900 aircraft, a release of the company said yesterday.

The aircraft has 36 flat-bed seats and 247 economy class seats.

After purchasing tickets from SkyLink or the official website of Shekou Cruise Home Port, passengers will be provided with boarding cards and baggage check-through service.

After passengers have completed customs and immigration clearing procedures, they can proceed directly to their Qatar Airways boarding gate after a 30-minute ferry trip to SkyPier, or enjoy the award-winning duty-free shopping experience and fine-dining options at HKIA, before continuing a seamless onward journey with the airline to more than 80 destinations.

“The introduction of the ferry transfer service will boost our footprint in the Greater Bay Area by providing our southern Chinese customers more flexible flying options via HKIA. We know connectivity within the region and to the wider world is critical for the success of the GBA. Therefore, we are excited to do our part to build the infrastructure necessary to make it easier and smoother for local customers to travel despite the disruption caused by the pandemic around the world,” Thomas Scruby, vice president of sales for Australasia and North Asia of Qatar Airways, said.

“We are confident in the market’s demand and our commitment to the region remains resolute. The next phase of our partnership with Airport Authority Hong Kong will see the ferry transfer service to be further expanded to other key GBA metropolises such as Macao and Dongguan once government restrictions are lifted,” he continued.

Prior to the ferry service, passengers are advised to provide nucleic acid test results within 72 hours, or authoritative test reports by authorized organizations.

VIP passengers of the airline can use the Plaza Premium Lounge near Gate 1 of Departure Hall in the south of the Hong Kong airport.

Golden cardholders of Qatar Airways club and frequent passengers of One World can use The Wing lounge of Cathay Pacific near Gates 1-4 of the airport.
