High-speed rail line to Shenshan gets approval

The Shenzhen-Shanshan High-speed Railway from downtown Shenzhen to Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone will cost about 48.8 billion yuan (US$6.86 billion), according to an approval released by Guangdong’s transport department recently.

The high-speed railway runs about 125 kilometers and will have six stations, namely Xili, Luohu North and Pingshan stations in Shenzhen, Huizhou South and Huidong stations in Huizhou, and Shenshan Station in Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone.

Xili and Huidong stations are ground-level stations, Luohu North and Huizhou South stations are underground stations, and Pingshan and Shenshan stations will be on elevated bridges.

The railway project includes 39 bridges, 18 tunnels and two railway links, namely the 5.9-kilometer link with the Xiamen-Shenzhen railway and the 4.7-kilometer link with the Guangzhou-Shantou railway, according to the provincial transport department.

The railway runs about 52 kilometers in Shenzhen, 56 kilometers in Huizhou and 16.9 kilometers in Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone. The designated speed between Luohu North and Shenshan stations is 350 kilometers per hour, and the designated speed between Xili and Luohu North stations is 250 kilometers per hour. The shortest interval for train departures is at 5 minutes.

A single trip from Shenzhen to Shenshan will be cut to 30 minutes when the rail is put into operation, scheduled for 2025. Xili Station will be a transport hub for the Shenzhen-Jiangmen High-speed Railway. Work is under way on the Tanglangshan Tunnel section of the Shenzhen-Shenshan High-speed Railway, which spans about 13.8 kilometers.
