Memorial Hall of Chinese Cultural Celebrity Rescue

Built on September 3, 2005, the Memorial Hall of Chinese Cultural Celebrity Rescue opened to the public for free. The name plate of the hall was inscribed by Zou Jiahua, former member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, former Vice Premier of the State Council, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

With a land area of 2,860 m2 and a floor area of 900 m2, the memorial hall consists of a Catholic church, which served as a former stopover for the celebrities during the rescue, a sculpture depicting the scene during the great rescue, an exhibition hall, a large relief wall, and some reception and office spaces.

The memorial hall tells the story of a rescue campaign taking place in early 1942, which lasted for 200 days and rescued more than 800 mainlanders including patriotic democrats and intellectuals, as well as over 100 international friends from the U.K., the U.S., India and Hong Kong occupied by Japanese invaders. It has the largest collection of historical materials and cultural relics of the great rescue in the Lingnan region and memorial hall under the theme of the rescue in Shenzhen. It was enlisted as the third batch of the "National Anti-Japanese War Memorial Facilities and Sites in China" by the State Council, and is also a historic education base in Guangdong Province and a revolutionary tourist attraction at municipal and provincial level.
