From: Shenzhen Municipal Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau
Shenzhen Ancient Buddhist Art Museum is a non-state-owned museum approved by Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau and registered by Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau in May 2019. It is a thematic museum with personal collections as the main body and design exhibitions according to the characteristics of the collection.
The museum has more than 500 pieces (sets), all of which are from Central Asia, West Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and other countries along the Belt and Road, especially the ancient carving art masterpieces of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Iran, Syria and other countries. At present, the theme of the permanent exhibition is: "Origins • Heritage," and the exhibition is divided into three exhibition halls: Kushan period art, Pala period art, and Angkor period art. Among them, the Kushan period art and the Pala period art exhibition halls show the origin of Buddhist figurative art, the ups and downs and development traces that have lasted for more than 1,000 years, and the extensive and far-reaching influence on Chinese Buddhist art. The Angkor period art exhibition hall is a treasure trove of ancient Southeast Asian art, and shows rich Buddhist connotations and exquisite carving.
The museum fills a gap in the thematic museum of ancient Buddhist statue art abroad in China, and the cultural relics collected are all from countries along the Belt and Road. It will play an active role in promoting cultural exchanges between countries.
