OCT Art & Design Gallery

OCT Art & Design Gallery is the first gallery in China dedicated to the subject of design. Conceived by OCT Group, the gallery was officially launched on September 1, 2008. It is the design branch of OCAT Museums.

OCT Art & Design Gallery is committed to promoting communication, development, and research on design, with a focus on experimental design and interdisciplinary innovation. The gallery has been long devoted to connecting the public with art, design, and culture through different approaches including exhibitions, education programs, collection, and research. Following such a concept, OCT Art & Design Gallery has planned six exhibition sections – clothing, food, housing, mobility, supplies, and "X". The first five sections always direct exhibitions towards people's day-to-day life with exuberant liveliness and break through the boundaries through variable works and forms, maximizing the dimensions of exhibitions to offer the audience with different perspectives. While the 'X' part is future-oriented, full of the unknown and possibilities, it explores the future life of humankind in the realm of design and art with cross-disciplinary languages.

The main building, now wrapped with glass walls supported by a hexagonal steel structure, was formerly a warehouse. The building has an area of over 3,000 m², including 2,000 m² of exhibition space. By preserving the old structure beneath the cutting-edge exterior, this work of avant-garde architecture maintains its history and significance.

Nearby OCT Art & Design Gallery, OCT Art occupies 600 m², with 250 m² of indoor space. As an extension of the gallery, OCT Art consists of an art store, a bookshop, and a cafe. Through small-scale exhibitions, lectures, workshops, screenings, and live performances, OCT Art provides the public with a platform for interaction and communication to enjoy the fusion of art, design, and lifestyle.
