Intelligent sensor industry

As an important means of interaction between information systems and the external environment as well as the main source of perceived information, intelligent sensors are the core and pioneering foundation to determine the future development of the information technology industry.In order to promote the manufacturing industry and speed up the cultivation and development of the intelligent sensor industry cluster, the Shenzhen Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission and the Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology and Innovation Commission have formulated an action plan for the cultivation and development of the intelligent sensor industry cluster (2022-2025).

Development status

In 2021, the added value of Shenzhen's intelligent sensor industry exceeded 4 billion yuan.There are a range of MEMS microphone industry leaders that have accumulated extensive technology as well as “small and sophisticated” firms that boast innovative technology, strong R&D capabilities, and considerable industry influence in subdivision fields such as lidar and infrared thermopiles.

Objectives

(1) Continuous expansion of industrial scale. Shenzhen will seize the strategic opportunities brought by the explosive growth and technological innovation in the intelligent sensor market, and expand and strengthen a number of intelligent sensor manufacturing and system integration firms. By 2025, the added value of the intelligent sensor industry is projected to double to 8 billion yuan, and a number of “little giants,” “single champions”and“unicorns”in the manufacturing industry are expected to emerge.

(2) Constantly enhancing innovation capacity.By 2025, the city will make breakthroughs in a number of core technologies for intelligent sensors and invest in high-level innovation platforms with advanced technology, outstanding features, and complementary advantages. The goalis to build at least four industrial public service platforms.

Significant improvements in manufacturing capacity. Shenzhen will build high-level industrial bases (industrial parks) and advanced sensor-processing pilot platforms with key firms in the industry leading the way. By 2025, the city will launch an MEMS pilot line with mass production capacity to provide customized and large-scale processing services for high-end MEMS sensor firms. It will also build a complete MEMS product technology innovation chain covering R&D, pilot testing, and mass production.
