

Modern fashion industry

In order to accelerate the development of the modern fashion industry cluster and build Shenzhen into a city of innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity with global influence, the Shenzhen Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission and the Shenzhen Municipal Commerce Bureauhave formulated an action plan for fostering and developing a modern fashion industry cluster (2022-2025).
Development status
Shenzhen is one of the fashion bases in China complete with all subsectors, concentrated original brands, complete industrial supporting facilities, and a remarkable agglomeration effect. The added value of the fashion industry in 2021 was 37.7 billion yuan.The number of brands, market share and number of listed firms in the garment industry enjoy the leading position in women's wear in China.The product design and processing technology of the furniture industry also lead the country, while the annual gold delivery volume of the gold jewelry industry accounts for 70% of the Shanghai Gold Exchange. Meanwhile, the clock industry accounts for 40% of the global watch output and the leather industry occupies the leading position in the domestic shoes and bag industry.The output of the glasses industry accounts for about 50% of the world's medium and high-end glasses. The annual area of the exhibition industry totals more than 5 million square meters, ranking it fourth in the country.
Objectives
(1) The garment industry will occupy a leading position in the shift to digitalization and high-end products. The city will build a number of garment-centric industrial areas with coordinated industrial chains, launch 2-3 industrial internet platforms for the garment industry, add more than 10 national famous brands, and build Shenzhen Fashion Week into a globally influential and trend-setting fashion event.
(2) Outstanding assembly and intelligence in the furniture industry. The city will build one or two digital transformation platforms for assembled furniture that can lead the country, create more than 10 famous national brands, and roll out a series of standards for intelligent homes.
(3) Characteristic and healthy development of the gold and jewelry industry. The city will promote innovation in creative design, craftsmanship, and materials,add 5-8 famous national jewelry brands,build the Shenzhen International Jewelry and Jade Comprehensive Trading Center, and establish ahigh-end,international gold and jewelry base.
(4) Improvement in key technologies and brand strength of the clock industry. Shenzhen will make new breakthroughs in the core technologies for watch movements, high-end professional watches, and smart watch sensors. It will add 3-5 provincial-level or higher“single champions,”“little giants”and “unicorns,” and introduce or cultivate 5-10 watchmaking technology leaders as well as highly skilled craftsmen and professional designers to further consolidate the city’s advantages as “China's watchmaking capital.”
Continuously enhancingthe core competitiveness of leather, glasses, and cosmetics. The city will build 3-4 digital libraries, high-throughput laboratories, and public service platforms to evaluate raw materials, set upat leastthree digitalization promotion centers, and focus on cultivating more than 10 famous national brands.
