New materials industry

From: Shenzhen Municipal Talent Affairs Bureau

In order to further focus on the development of the new materials industry, accelerate the cross integration and innovation of new materials and new technologies, boost the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and the development of strategic emerging industries, and create a demonstration hub for innovation and the application of new materials technology, the Shenzhen Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission, and the Shenzhen Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Commission have formulated the "Shenzhen Action Plan for Cultivating and Developing New Materials Industry Clusters (2022-2025)."

Development status:

In recent years, Shenzhen's new materials industry has witnessed rapid growth, continuous expansion of industrial scale, steady improvement of its innovation ability, and significant improvement of its application level. A number of competitive enterprises and startups have emerged, forming an industrial cluster effect represented by the advanced battery material industry cluster. In 2021, the added value of Shenzhen's new materials industry reached 32.4 billion yuan.

Objectives:

(1) The industrial scale will be greatly expanded. By 2025, the added value of the new materials industry will reach 55 billion yuan, and clusters of new energy materials, advanced metal materials, and polymer materials will be formed. The scale of the electronic information materials, cutting-edge new materials, and green building materials industry will be steadily expanded.

(2) Innovation ability will be improved. By 2025, the innovation system of the new materials industry will be improved, and a number of high-level innovation carriers such as large scientific installations, provincial key laboratories, new research and development institutions will be built. Efforts will be made to build 1-2 provincial and higher-level innovation centers, 1-2 provincial and higher-level key laboratories, and several municipal and higher-level enterprise technology centers.

(3) Core technology breakthroughs will be achieved. By 2025, Shenzhen will achieve independent research and development and independent innovation in key technologies. It will develop a batch of internationally leading original core technologies with independent intellectual property rights, own a batch of high-value patents in key core areas, and produce a batch of key products with strong industrial drive and independent intellectual property rights.
