Renowned HK photographer exhibits works

Hong Kong's leading photographer Chris Cheung is exhibiting his works at Residence G in Nanshan District. The exhibition features seven portraits of the famous Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai and other black-and-white photos of actors, actresses and models.

“The works I bring here were taken more than 10 years ago, but I’ve applied a technique with gelatin silver to better preserve the photos and make the color unchangeable,” Cheung said at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Now based in Shanghai, Cheung, who has been in the photography field for more than 20 years, was a popular photographer of hit stars such as Faye Wong, Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung in the 1990s. He has cooperated with many renowned brands from home and abroad, and shot countless posters and advertisements.

“Probably I’m the one who took the most album cover photos in the world, as I encountered the golden era of the Hong Kong entertainment industry. I could take four covers of Faye Wong each year,” he recalled.

From a young age, Cheung was influenced by his father for the love of photography. After he graduated at age 18, he worked in model companies and magazine offices while learning how to shoot. Later, he set up his own studio.
