Attendees advocated for further enhancing China-ASEAN cooperation in the energy electronics industry as the transition to green and renewable energy has been embraced worldwide at a parallel forum of the China-ASEAN Forum on Emerging Industries held yesterday at Wuzhou Guest House in Futian District.

The parallel forum on China-ASEAN Energy Electronics Industry Cooperation invited representatives from companies and government institutions at home and abroad to share opinions and cooperation practices on related topics.

The emerging energy electronics industry aims to address challenges arising from the rapid growth of the new energy sector using cutting-edge electronic information technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence. It covers areas such as photovoltaic power and new types of power storage batteries.

The development of the energy electronics industry is considered crucial to achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, according to a policy interpretation published on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Nuki Agya Utama, executive director of the ASEAN Center for Energy, said in his opening remarks via video link that ASEAN still has many untapped market for energy storage applications and made recommendations for energy storage policies for further development.

He recommended the issuance of specific policies to regulate energy storage and clearly define the responsibilities of stakeholders in the power industry. He also suggested implementing policies to encourage behind-the-meter applications, especially in commercial and industrial buildings.

Alberto Dalusung III, an energy transition consultant at the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities of the Republic of the Philippines and a forum speaker, told Shenzhen Daily that investment in power facilities and manufacturing facilities are areas where he hopes Shenzhen and the Philippines can work together.

“What I really hope is that there is a recognition of the Philippines’ power market as an opportunity for Shenzhen companies to invest in. I hope that the Philippines is also considered as an investment destination for manufacturing, given the scale of our renewable energy plants,” Dalusung said.

Speakers at a thematic salon during the parallel forum emphasized the importance of localization, talent cultivation and the formulation of standards. They used the example of floating photovoltaics in Singapore to illustrate the significance of localization during the discussion.
