The 2023 art performance season was launched at the Bay Opera of Shenzhen in Qianhai on July 6. Over the next four months, it will offer a cultural feast to the audience, featuring 13 performances of 11 outstanding productions and four cultural events.

The productions in the art performance season include dramas, musicals, dances, concerts, high-definition video screenings, and other repertoire presented by various art troupes and artists from the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao. Among them are the Hong Kong Repertory Theater, the Actors’ Family, the Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble, the Hiu Koc Drama Association, as well as violinist Tan Yun and piano artist Yang Yike.

The performance season aims to foster the economic, social and cultural growth within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) by combining different art forms and industries. It offers a wide range of artistic experiences to residents and visitors, showcasing the cultural allure through these diverse art forms.

Tang Sau-han, director of the Shenzhen Liaison Unit of the Hong Kong S.A.R. Government, emphasized at the launch ceremony that the Hong Kong government has consistently supported the growth of culture and the art. “Hong Kong and the mainland share a common cultural heritage and are closely connected. Utilizing culture and art as a bridge can encourage exchanges and integration within the GBA, and foster mutual understanding and strengthen connections between the two sides,” she said.

Representatives of eight troupes and cultural venues receive certificates at the ceremony recognizing their partnership in the art performance season.

Under the guidance of the Qianhai Authority, the Bay Opera of Shenzhen has established the GBA Culture and Art Partners Group, with eight troupes and venues becoming the first batch of its members, including the Hong Kong Repertory Theater, the Actors’ Family, the Hiu Koc Drama Association, the Guangzhou Opera House, and the Foshan Grand Theater, among others. These members received certificates at the ceremony recognizing their partnership in the art performance season.

During the event, four college schools from Shenzhen and Hong Kong were awarded the Bay Opera of Shenzhen with GBA Practice Base plaques. This gesture seeks to leverage the strengths of each institution through resource sharing, fostering an environment that supports the growth of cultural venues, as well as the learning, employment, and innovation of young individuals in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
