Sign up for expats photo contest to win ¥10,000

The Expats Eye Shenzhen Photo Contest is celebrating its fifth anniversary! We are thrilled to announce the launch of the commemorative fifth edition of this contest, and we extend a warm invitation to foreign photo enthusiasts to participate. Simply choose your finest images that embody the spirit of Shenzhen from your photo gallery and join the contest for an opportunity to win incredible prizes.

Winning works will be awarded generous cash prizes and opportunities for exhibitions.

Categories:

C1 Humanistic category. This category accepts photos related to Shenzhen’s city landscape, urban life, culture heritages, sports and arts, and international communities, etc.

C2 Nature category. This category accepts photos related to Shenzhen’s nature landscape and ecology (animals and plants).

Awards:

C1 Humanistic photography:

One first-prize winner: 10,000 yuan

Two second-prize winners: 8,000 yuan each

Four third-prize winners: 3,000 yuan each

C2 Nature photography:

One first-prize winner: 10,000 yuan

Two second-prize winners: 8,000 yuan each

Four third-prize winners: 3,000 yuan each

Twenty merit awards: 1,000 yuan each

Finalist awards: 800 yuan each

The winning works will be exhibited at the awards ceremony and published on a photo contest brochure. All the cash prizes are after-tax.

Entry requirements:

1. This contest accepts works only from expat photographers in Shenzhen or foreign photographers who have previously visited or lived in Shenzhen.

2. Each contestant can submit a maximum of 10 photos to both categories, including those in a photo series. There is no limitation for the shooting time. Each image and series requires an individual title and caption (including the content of the image, shooting time, and shooting location). Winning photos from previous contests are not eligible to submit.

3. Entrants must submit large-sized digital JPG files. Each image should be no less than 2 MB. Submissions failing to meet this requirement shall be rejected.

4. The host and the organizers have the right to use the winning works in the form of copying, distribution, exhibition, screening, and dissemination via internet without extra payment.

5. The entrants must be the author of the submitted images and own independent, complete, explicit and undisputed copyright of the overall and partial parts of the image. The entrants should also guarantee that the submitted images do not infringe upon the lawful rights and interests of any third party including but not limited to copyrights, portrait rights, right of reputation and privacy rights.

6. Works and behaviors that are found to jeopardize public order and good customs shall be immediately disqualified. “Works and behaviors that jeopardize public order and good customs” include, but are not limited to, any situation that violates laws, morals, public order or good customs that may seriously mislead the public or are fraudulent.

7. Works that do not comply with the provisions of these guidelines shall not be accepted and shall be disqualified. The host and the organizers have the right to withdraw prizes and certificates of awards, etc. with notification on public media.

8. No participation fee is required but submitted works will not be returned. The host and the organizers will not be held responsible for damages during the delivery process or due to late delivery.

9. The submissions should not be modified to include additional or fewer elements than the original. Editing techniques permissible during the post-production stage of the submissions include adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation and white balance; removing CMOS spots, chromatic aberrations, and lens distortion; cropping; using multiple exposures; manipulating HDR; stitching panoramas; and other similar techniques. If colored photos are converted to black and white or monochromatic, it must be done for the entire image and not selectively.

10. Submissions in the nature category (C2) must accurately portray the natural state of the subject. Baiting or staging photos involving wild animals is strictly prohibited. Any entries that do not adhere to this requirement will be disqualified immediately. Additionally, photographs of pets or animals in captivity, such as those taken at zoos, will be ineligible for first, second, third, and merit prizes. 

11. The host and the organizers reserve the right for final interpretation of the activity. All the entrants shall be deemed to have agreed to all the provisions of this guideline.

Reminder: 

All entries should include the following information: 

1. Full name, nationality and the contact information (including mobile number and WeChat ID) of the photographer. Entrants are not allowed to participate under a pseudonym.

2. A clear photograph of the photographer should be attached.

3. Title, caption and shooting time and location of each photo.

4. The code of the category. (C1 for humanistic, C2 for nature)

Submission: 

Entries and personal information of the photographers should be sent to eyeshenzhen@126.com by Sept. 15. Submissions via QQ, 126 and 163 mail addresses are preferred, in case the emails are identified as spam.

If the files are too big, submission via net disk link including Baidu Cloud and WeTransfer will be also accepted. See the “Reminder” section for the requirements.
