Futian Mangrove Ecological Park, an oasis of peace

Located in downtown Futian District, Futian Mangrove Ecological Park connects with the national-level Futian National Mangrove Nature Reserve on its west and is separated only by the Shenzhen River from Hong Kong's Mai Po Nature Reserve on its south. 

Covering an area of 38 hectares, the park is valued for its resourceful flora and fauna. It features riverside scenery and exquisite gardens, where visitors can watch flowers, insects, fish and birds. An oasis of peace amidst the urban hustle for residents, the park is also a bird sanctuary, receiving nearly 100,000 migrating birds from the eastern hemisphere for winter each year. More than 200 species of birds passing through here and 23 of them are rare and endangered species, including the black-faced spoonbill. Large flocks of birds flying in formation are a spectacular but common scene in the park. 

There are special bird-watching pavilions in the park, where visitor can watch the birds, take a rest, admire the wetland scenery, or observe flora and fauna in the park.

For a better understanding of mangrove wetlands, bird ecology and the history of Shazui Village, visitors can visit the popular science exhibition hall in the park (reservations required). The park also offers free bird watching tours and guided tours on different themes of natural education. Just a reminder for visitors: any form of eating is not allowed in the park for the protection of the ecosystem there.
