On Xiaohongshu, a Chinese social media platform, stargazing is a popular recreation choice for tourists in Xichong in Dapeng New Area, which is also famous for hiking, beach-going and barbecues.

In April, Xichong was recognized as the first International Dark Sky Community in China, according to the International Dark-Sky Association.

The Xichong community covers an area of approximately 10.9 square kilometers and includes the Shenzhen Astronomical Observatory, Xichong Beach, and eight natural villages that are home to about 2,500 villagers. The area is surrounded by mountains on three sides with one side facing the sea and is well-shielded from urban light pollution, allowing visitors to view and take beautiful photos of the starry sky.
