Upcoming performances: puppet show, recital and more

SZSO, Shanghai Quartet

The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) will collaborate with young pianist Shen Lu to present Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18.” The concert, with Christian Ehwald wielding the baton, will also include Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 36.” Meanwhile, over the weekend, the Shanghai Quartet will perform two concerts. On Saturday, the string musicians will play pieces by Haydn, Mozart and Dvořák, and on Sunday, they will present tunes by Tan Dun, Zhou Long, Penderecki and Barber.

"Cecilia's Ideas”

‘Cecilia’s Ideas’

The Brazilian puppet show “Cecilia’s Ideas” will be staged at two venues in Shenzhen. It tells the story of an elderly woman named Cecilia recalling her childhood and youth. She uses puppets and clothing from a suitcase to recreate her memories. She narrates her interactions with natural elements like wind, flowers, animals, and birds, as well as her love story, expressing her views on life, love, death and self-reflection.

Free concert

The Macao Orchestra will give a free concert tomorrow. Conducted by Lio Kuok-man, the orchestra will play familiar Chinese folk and Western opera tunes, with erhu master Jiang Jianhua, sopranos Guo Sen and Yang Chenxiuyi and morin khuur player Hasbagen as soloists.

Symphonies, piano recital

The Shenzhen Grand Theater Philharmonic Orchestra will perform an evening of classical tunes by Arutiunian, Balakirev and Borodin on Friday. And on Saturday, Central Conservatory of Music piano professor Sheng Yuan will play pieces by Chopin, Liszt, Brahms and Tchaikovsky.
