Reading month events (Nov. 3-8)

The 24th Shenzhen Reading Month, with over 2,000 activities running through Nov. 30 at 11 subvenues across the city, will open Saturday.

Given the cultural connections between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, a series of activities on the exchanges between the two cities will be held starting this weekend. Readers can buy books from various Hong Kong publishing companies or attend free talks featuring Hong Kong writers.

Book market

Chinese and imported books, including English books and children’s picture books, as well as cultural and creative products, are on sale at an outdoor market.

Talk by young writers

Readers can listen to a talk from four young award-winning Hong Kong sci-fi writers and illustrators, as well as Shenzhen writer, Wang Dake. Wang’s “Love and Sex in the Animal Kingdom” won the Shenzhen Reading Month’s annual top 10 books last year.

Talks by designers, publishers

Three Hong Kong DFA Awards winners and Shenzhen designer and painter, Lin Yingxi, will talk about book design, product design and cross-media design Sunday afternoon. It will be followed by another talk between three Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards winners and Shenzhen designer, Han Zhanning.
