Taiwan-themed festival

A Taiwan-themed festival gathering snacks, specialties and cultural creative products is ongoing at Donghai City Square in Futian District and will run through Monday. Visitors will also have a chance to appreciate traditional ethnic dancing.

‘Carmen’

Ballet Flamenco de Madrid, a flamenco dance troupe from Spain, will present Bizet’s “Carmen” over the weekend. The version, which has toured around the world for 30,000 shows, combines several classic melodies with a live band.

‘Dreamer and the Rainbow Tiger’

“Dreamer and the Rainbow Tiger” is an Australian black light puppet show centering on hope, imagination and friendship during challenging times. After heavy rains, a magical rainbow tiger emerges from a rainbow to visit Dreamer. They share adventures.

Improv comedy

Improv comedy group Couch Potatoes will present a show at Nantou Ancient Town Saturday. Themed “Alone Together,” the event is in the form of “playback theater,” which means actors and musicians’ performances are inspired by audiences’ stories at scene.

UABB at Nantou

A free exhibition at the Nantou City subvenue of the ninth Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (UABB) is being held inside Nantou Ancient Town (branded as Nantou City). The exhibition running until Nov. 19 is showcasing 97 works and nine flash mob spaces created by 47 artists and teams.

Philip Colbert and James Jean’s exhibitions

British artist Philip Colbert is showcasing his lobster artworks at an exhibition running through Nov. 12. His sculptures, giant installations, paintings, industrial designs and new media artworks promise to bewitch art enthusiasts with their imaginative interpretations. Contemporary artist James Jean is also exhibiting his awe-inspiring paintings, sculptures, installations, drafts and research works at an exhibition running through Nov. 17.

Golden Rooster film screening event

Movie enthusiasts now have a rare chance to watch new movies directed by world famous filmmakers such as Ken Loach, Anh Hung Tran and François Ozon or starred by superstars such as Josh O’Connor, Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Huppert at the 2023 Golden Rooster Film Screening event. Screenings will be held Nov. 12-30 at three of The MixC’s cinemas in Shenzhen. Two old movies made in the 1990s will also be featured.
