Cello, piano, HKCO

Young pianists Wang Peng and Luo Fei will join hands with cellist Tan Cong to play works by Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms and Balakirev on Saturday. Then on Sunday, conductor Yan Huichang will lead the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) to play traditional Chinese pieces. Yan also serves as the orchestra’s artistic director.

“The Legend of the White Snake.”

Ballet ‘White Snake’

“The Legend of the White Snake,” an original ballet production by the Guangzhou Ballet, will be staged. Choreographed by Wang Ge, the ballet production follows the classic Chinese folktale about a white snake transforming into a beautiful woman and falling in love with a human. Wang combines traditional Chinese dance, Chinese folk dance and contemporary dance elements with ballet movements in the production. Celebrated designer Tim Yip designed the costumes.

Flute concert

Finnish flutist Pauliina Fred and pianist Aapo Häkkinen will play pieces by Bach, Mozart, Benda, Gluck, Donizetti and Scarlatti at a concert Sunday.

Glintwine, accordion

Local duo Glintwine, consisting of singer Zhang Qiudi and guitarist Pu Xiaobo, will collaborate with accordionist Liu Zhao to play a night of South American songs and French and Russian tunes.

The “Les Misérables” French Musical Concert

Musical concert, lieder, chansons

Musical enthusiasts should not miss the “Les Misérables” French Musical Concert to be staged this week. Then on Saturday, French mezzo-soprano Annie Vavrille will sing lieder by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Schubert, Mahler, Debussy, Poulenc, Ravel, Duparc and Chabrier, as well as chansons by Piaf and Aznavour. Ensemble Violette Paris will accompany the vocal concert.
