The annual top 10 children’s books of the 24th Shenzhen Reading Month were unveiled at a ceremony held at the Shenzhen Book City CBD Store in Futian District on Saturday.

Of the 10 books, four were translated from foreign books: “How to Make a Mountain” written by Amy Huntington and illustrated by Nancy Lemon, “Fun Paper Folding” written by Iwona Chmielewska, “Pine Island Home” written by Polly Horvath, and “Theo Is a Theater Captain” written by Nina Dashevskaya and illustrated by Yulia Sidneva.

The other six Chinese books are “Deng Deng Deng” written by Yu Yi and illustrated by Wang Zumin, “Radish Building” written and illustrated by Hechangtuan, “Origin of Crops” written by Tang Jing and Lu Wei and illustrated by Yu Hongyan, “This Is a Good Question” written by Li Miao and illustrated by Chuichui, “Cosmic Magic Printing Machine” written by Lin Shiren and illustrated by You Er, and “Ping Pong Resounding” written by Liu Haiqi.

The top 10 children’s books were chosen from among 1,000 books published in China. The selection process was launched in July. Fifty scholars in publishing and children’s education, academics, media practitioners and book critics from across the country were on the jury.

In addition, Shenzhen Reading Month also selected its annual publishing house, author and translator for recognition. The honors went to the Sichuan Juvenile and Children’s Publishing House, Ye Guangqin and Ah Jia, respectively.

Experts at the ceremony agreed that since its inception in 2014, the annual top 10 children’s book selection has witnessed the prosperity and growth of children’s books in China, and a significant improvement in children’s books.

Next, the annual top 10 children’s book selection will continue to work with high-quality publishing institutions, authors, translators, illustrators, and experts across the country to boost the originality, influence, and international competitiveness of Chinese children’s book publishing, thereby propelling Shenzhen’s annual top 10 children’s books brand towards the world.
