Reading month events (Nov. 15-19)

The 24th Shenzhen Reading Month, with over 2,000 activities running through Nov. 30 at 11 subvenues across the city, will open Saturday.

Given the cultural connections between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, a series of activities on the exchanges between the two cities will be held starting this weekend. Readers can buy books from various Hong Kong publishing companies or attend free talks featuring Hong Kong writers.

Top 10 books

The annual top 10 books of the 24th Shenzhen Reading Month will be unveiled at a ceremony.

Time: 4-5:30 p.m., Nov. 15

Venue: Egret Lawn Book Bar, inside Shenzhen Bay Park, Nanshan District (深圳湾公园白鹭坡书吧)

Bookstore Executives Conference

Bookstore enthusiasts and those intending to open their own bookstores should not miss the all-day event Friday (Nov. 17). Owners and managers of renowned physical bookstores, including Owspace in Beijing, Yunduo in Shanghai, 1200 Bookshop in Guangzhou, Razor’s Edge in Chongqing, and In a Cultural House in Hangzhou, will share insights about running a bookstore.

They will conduct a discussion from 9 a.m. to noon at Hotel Kapok Shenzhen Luohu (罗湖木棉花酒店). From 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., they will visit Moonland Bookstore (月岛书店) in Meifu Village in Futian District, Old Heaven Books (旧天堂书店) and Enclave Independent Bookstore (飞地书局) in OCT-LOFT in Nanshan, and then head to the Shenzhen Book City CBD Store (深圳书城中心城). Finally, they will gather for another talk at the 24 Hour Book Bar (24小时书吧) from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

SZ, HK youth poem recitation

Dialogues between SZ, Hangzhou

Writers, designers, and natural science scholars from Shenzhen and Hangzhou will engage in discussions to showcase the unique charm of Shenzhen as the “city of innovation” and Hangzhou as the “city of romance,” promoting cultural integration between the two cities.

Launch ceremony of digital reading promotion events

The Shenzhen Library will collaborate with libraries in the GBA for a digital reading promotion. They will share digital resources, holding online literature exhibitions, cosplay performances, reading games and other activities. They will invite readers to embark on a creative journey full of novelty, enjoy the pleasure of reading online and experience the convenience of digital reading.
