“Les Misérables”Musical concert

Musical enthusiasts should not miss the “Les Misérables” French Musical Concert to be staged this week. More than 30 singers will be on stage in this 120-minute grand show, accompanying the Shenzhen City Philharmonic Orchestra and a band.

Ballet ‘White Snake’

“The Legend of the White Snake,” an original ballet production by the Guangzhou Ballet, will be staged. Choreographed by Wang Ge, the ballet production follows the classic Chinese folktale about a white snake transforming into a beautiful woman and falling in love with a human. Wang combines traditional Chinese dance, Chinese folk dance and contemporary dance elements with ballet movements in the production.

Japanese Film Festival

Ten Japanese movies are shown from today to Dec. 3 at two Broadway cinemas in Shenzhen. Movie enthusiasts can not only enjoy new productions made in the past three years, but also the classic “Galaxy Express 999” in the remastered 4K version. All the movies will be shown in Japanese with Chinese subtitles.

Local duo Glintwine, consisting of singer Zhang Qiudi and guitarist Pu Xiaobo, will collaborate with accordionist Liu Zhao to play a night of South American songs and French and Russian tunes.

Traditional Chinese tunes

On Sunday, conductor Yan Huichang will lead the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) to play traditional Chinese pieces. Yan also serves as the orchestra’s artistic director.

Exquisite fan exhibition

A fan-themed exhibition showcasing fan-making technique from Suzhou, Jiangsu Province is being held at Sea World Culture and Arts Center until next Monday. The exhibited fans were made by fan-making master Wang Jian, visitors can have a closer look at traditional Suzhou fans and their making process.

Flower show and coffee festival

As the temperature drops this week, don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in a sea of blooming bougainvillea flowers and savor a cup of warm coffee at the 2023 Shenzhen Bougainvillea Show and Park Coffee Festival at Lianhua Hill Park.

International Piano Concerto Competition

The Fifth China Shenzhen International Piano Concerto Competition is being held at Shenzhen Concert Hall through Nov. 24, with 16 concerts and 10 masterclasses. A total of 29 young talented pianists from 14 countries and regions will present local music lovers with an engaging and multifaceted experience.

Golden Rooster Film Screening event

Movie enthusiasts now have a rare chance to watch new movies directed by world famous filmmakers such as Ken Loach, Anh Hung Tran and François Ozon or starred by superstars such as Josh O’Connor, Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Huppert at the 2023 Golden Rooster Film Screening event. Two old movies made in the 1990s are featured. Screenings are being held through Nov. 30 at three of The MixC’s cinemas in Shenzhen.
