A group of 20 international volunteers, Chinese and expat residents were invited by the Nanshan International Cultural Exchange and Service Center (NSIC) to visit eight historic sites in the Zhaoshang Subdistrict of Nanshan District Saturday afternoon.

The sites along a 5-km-long route, including iconic slogan sites, SANYO Semiconductor (Shekou) Ltd., Minghua Cruise, Time Square, and Yuan Geng’s Statue at the Sea World Culture and Arts Center, are regarded as a window to the history of China’s reform and opening-up. Through the trip, participants gained a glimpse of Zhaoshang Subdistrict’s involvement in Shenzhen’s development, as well as the area’s earth-shaking changes over the past few decades.

Participants found the tour very meaningful in that it gave them an opportunity to learn about China’s reform and opening-up. Some expats said that through the event they had a deeper understanding of the city’s history of development.

According to NSIC, in the future they will organize additional fun and meaningful events to further enhance the integration of Chinese and foreign cultures so as to better maintain its status as an international block.
