Guangdong holds economic work conference to plan for 2024

Guangdong held an economic conference on December 29 to review the province's economic work in 2023, and to analyze the current economic situation and arrange for next year's economic work. Top leaders in Guangdong attended the meeting.

It was noted at the conference that Guangdong's economy reached a milestone in 2023, resulting in solid progress and high-quality development.

Regarding the economic work for next year, the conference called for efforts to introduce more policies that will help stabilize economic expectations, stimulate growth, and generate employment, in order to strengthen the foundation for a stable economic development with a positive outlook.

With the real economy and manufacturing as its economic foundation, Guangdong plans to foster a mutual promotion between industries and technology. It plans to accelerate the development of emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, with the aim of promoting more sci-tech achievements to be utilized in the province.

In terms of expanding domestic demand and deepening supply-side reform, Guangdong will strive to stimulate consumption with potential and expand productive investment to create a cycle of mutually reinforcing consumption and investment.

In terms of deepening reforms in key areas, Guangdong will take steps to advance the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and deepen reforms to promote market-based allocation of production factors.

On the front of opening-up, Guangdong will make efforts to expand openness through a range of integrated measures in foreign trade, foreign investment, foreign economic cooperation, offshore outsourcing, and overseas talent attraction, in order to strengthen the overall performance of foreign trade and foreign capital.

Meanwhile, the province will further develop modern agriculture and marine ranching and do solid work with regards to agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. It will continue to push forward with high-quality development projects for counties, towns, and villages, in order to facilitate integrated urban-rural development and coordinated regional development.

In terms of green development, Guangdong will advance ecological conservation and promote green and low-carbon development in order to achieve the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Furthermore, efforts will be made to ensure and improve people's livelihoods. (GD Today)
