Qilong Mountain Park

Located in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao’an District, Qilong Mountain Park is a hidden gem that is relatively unknown compared with the neighboring Pingluan Mountain Park and Jiangang Mountain Park.

Covering a total area of 546,248 square meters, the park is blanketed by a thick forest, where people can go climbing or hiking, play football or basketball at the sports field at its foot, or simply enjoy the greenery and the quietness.

Qilong Mountain is not difficult to scale as it is not very high. There are three climbing passes with several well-maintained hiking routes, and each hiking route has its own unique scenery. Route No. 9 behind Longgui Pavilion and Routes No. 6 and 7 behind Huxin Pavilion are recommended. Along the way up, climbers may encounter small animals and insects, or take a glance at the cityscape overlapping the mountain range as well as the blue sky and white clouds within reach. These trails of moderate difficulty usually take half an hour to an hour to complete the whole journey, making it very suitable for bringing children to explore nature.

A prominent feature of the park is the specially designed blue handrail that winds its way up to the top of the mountain along the hiking routes. In a fresh and bright color rarely seen in Shenzhen parks, the handrails look like ribbons blown down by the wind, a fairytale world scene.

Ascending to the top of the hill, visitors can see the Canglong Pavilion hidden in the green forest, and the ancient colors of the pavilion create a dignified and peaceful atmosphere. Although the pavilion is currently not open to the public, visitors can take a rest on the stone benches outside and enjoy the breeze. There are other pavilions along each of the climbing paths, which can be used as a resting place halfway up the mountain.

For those who don’t want to go climbing, the more relaxing ring road at the foot of the mountain meanders up and down, making it perfect for a slow, leisurely wander.

Most of the time, the park is frequented by a small number of visitors, but when the sun goes down into the mountains, residents of nearby neighborhoods usually show up en masse, with the sports field outside the park entrance gathering the most people. The football pitch there is free and open to the public. There is also a basketball court on the other side of Qilong Mountain.

After visiting the park, people can also take a stroll in the nearby parks. Not far away, Jiangang Mountain Park, 202.9 meters above sea level, offer a closer view of the Tiegang Reservoir.

Pingluan Mountain Park, which is also adjacent to Qilong Mountain Park, is the largest city park in Bao’an District. Dubbed a real-world version of the Wizard of Oz, it boasts lush greenery and picturesque scenery. The park has five entrances and exits, and the mountaintop commands a 360-degree view of Bao’an’s cityscape.
