On January 11, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, a mega sea-crossing project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), finished paving the steel deck.

Lingdingyang Bridge began the steel deck pavement on November 1, 2023. Currently, the asphalt pavement on its right side has been completed.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has a total paving area of 380,000 square meters, making it the largest steel deck pavement project in the world that uses hot-mixed epoxy asphalt (HMEA) concrete.

The construction team has independently developed three systems for epoxy asphalt intelligent paving, resulting in significant improvements in construction efficiency, control accuracy, and engineering quality.

Stretching for 24 kilometers, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is comprised of one underwater tunnel, two bridges, and two artificial islands. This makes it one of the most challenging cross-sea cluster projects in the world.

So far, every construction project of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has entered the final stage. After Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year, the concrete asphalt pavement of the undersea tunnel will begin.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is scheduled to open to traffic in 2024. With its operation, the travel time between the two cities in south China's Guangdong Province will be reduced from the current two hours to approximately 20 minutes. (GD Today)
