‘Matilda: The Musical’

“Matilda” tells the story of a girl who, armed with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination, dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results. Adapted from a novel by Roald Dahl, the award-winning musical, composed by Tim Minchin, has won 101 international awards.

‘Carmen’

The Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater is collaborating with Staatsoper Hamburg from Germany to present George Bizet’s classic French-language opera “Carmen” this weekend.

Modern art, architecture

Chinese artist and researcher Pan Lusheng is exhibiting his contemporary artworks, designs and 40 years of field research on traditional Chinese folk art at an exhibition running through Feb. 25. In his works, vibrant colors interplay alongside abstract patterns, interweaving with striking Chinese folk art motifs, to breathe new life into age-old traditions.

Meanwhile, Shenzhen artist Zhou Li is showcasing her abstract paintings created from 2001 to 2023 at the “Rose of Light” exhibition running through March 13. And visitors can also explore the design concepts and architectural features of some of Shenzhen’s new cultural landmarks at an exhibition running through May 5.

‘Treasures’

“Treasures — China Printmaking Museum Collection Exhibition of Contemporary and Modern Printmaking Masters,” running through March 11, showcases the works of esteemed masters spanning from the late 19th century to the present day. This extensive collection juxtaposes an array of styles and concepts, encompassing modernism, postmodernism, avant-garde, expressionism, fauvism, cubism, surrealism, neo-expressionism, pop art, abstract expressionism, and abstract art.

Paintings of Pingshan

People who engage in physical activities or seek relaxation in Pingshan District Central Park can check out a painting exhibition featuring Pingshan’s landmarks and picturesque landscape at an exhibition running through Jan. 31. Visitors can admire not only Pingshan’s historical and natural spots but also contemporary landmarks in the paintings.
