The Shenzhen Nanshan Half Marathon has been awarded the Road Race Label by World Athletics, the world governing body for track and field athletics, which recently released the 2024 World Athletics Label Road Races calendar on its official website.

The World Athletics Label Road Races, divided into four tiers – Platinum Label, Gold Label, Elite Label, and Label – is a grading system for road races worldwide.

More than just a good start to the new year, the achievement of upgrading to a label race marks a monumental milestone for Nanshan Half Marathon as it celebrates its 10th anniversary, serving as a resounding endorsement of the event's commitment to professional organization.

The event made its debut in 2015 at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center. Since then, as Shenzhen's first marathon event organized by a district government and certified by the Chinese Athletics Association (CAA), the Nanshan Half Marathon has achieved remarkable success, winning the CAA Silver Label Race in 2016 and 2017, and CAA Gold Label Race in 2019.

The half marathon witnessed a record-breaking turnout last year, with over 16,000 participants hitting the road from Shenzhen Talent Park, receiving overwhelming praise from both participants and citizens.

The annual event has now become a staple of the city's cultural and sports events, and the most influential professional road race across Shenzhen and even South China.
