A visit to SZ fosters a dream to work in SZ

I'm Ramy Shihabi, 27 years old, a Palestinian Syrian living in Wuhan as an international student at Huazhong University of Science & Technology, taking up my master’s degree in Orthodontics.

I have been in China for about one year. During this time, I had a wonderful opportunity to explore various cities across the beautiful country from Beijing in the north to Shenzhen in the south. Fortunately, among all the cities I've visited in China, three are located in Guangdong Province.

Shenzhen was one of them, where I had the privilege of visiting this wonderful city with an Arabian delegation after receiving an invitation from the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China as part of the Belt and Road activities along with many cities in China. Each visit to a city in China provides me with a completely new experience, including aspects such as the local people, cuisine, customs, weather, and the history of that particular city. It really adds depth to my understanding about Chinese culture.

But Shenzhen, in its unique essence, tells the whole story, harmoniously blending the beauty and development of the city. It really lets you know that the era of artificial intelligence in China has begun. The city’s skyline is dominated by modern skyscrapers, and its economy has diversified beyond manufacturing to include finance, biotechnology, and other high-tech industries.

Over the years, Shenzhen has evolved into a major global technology and innovation hub. It is home to some of the world’s leading technology companies, including Huawei, Tencent, BYD, TuyaSmart, Hytera, and Mindray. During my stay in Shenzhen, I visited most of them.

Mindray serves over 99% of 3A grade hospitals in China, including Tongji Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science & Technology, where I am currently studying for my master’s degree in orthodontics. Moreover, what amazed me was after visiting many companies in Shenzhen, especially Tuya Smart Co., it transported me to the world of rapid development and progress.

One of the key factors in Shenzhen’s rapid development was its strategic location adjacent to Hong Kong. Its proximity to Hong Kong facilitated economic exchanges, technological transfers, and knowledge sharing. The city became a vital link between China and the global market. Actually, everything in Shenzhen was different, especially the disciplined behavior of its residents, when everyone is waiting for the Metro calmly in an orderly queue.

In addition, what particularly impresses me about Shenzhen is the attractive nature during my visit to Guangdong Neilingding Futian National Nature Reserve, you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the lands, observe diverse bird species, and appreciate the importance of preserving such natural environments.

Finally, I had a great opportunity to meet Cao Saixian, the director of the Shenzhen Foreign Affairs Office.

After my enriching experience in Shenzhen, I decided to pursue my dream after graduation, which is to work as an orthodontist in Shenzhen. See you again in Shenzhen!
