The Shenzhen Museum is currently hosting a vivid tapestry of art in the form of an exhibition that shines a spotlight on the storied career of Spanish artist Jorge Rando.

Opened to the public and set to run until May 26, the exhibition titled “Jorge Rando: Polyphony and Philosophy Through the Brush” is a comprehensive retrospective that showcases 118 of Rando's works, spanning from the 1960s to modern-day creations.

Rando's pieces are a blend of abstract and figurative styles that bridge the gap between imagination and reality. The exhibition puts on a display Rando's remarkable ability to capture the essence of various subjects.

Guests will see his exploration of serene landscapes, intricate human portraits, the fragile beauty of flora and fauna, and the candid simplicity of everyday life such as a mother’s love and the vibrancy of city cyclists. Each painting offers more than just a visual treat; they narrate a story, inciting an emotional connection that delves deep into Rando's perspective of the world around us.

Jorge Rando, born in 1941, is a defining figure in Spain's Neo-Expressionism movement. He's celebrated not only for his visual artistry but also for his philosophical contributions to the art world. The establishment of the Jorge Rando Museum in Malaga, Spain, and the release of his fervent “Manifesto of Contemporary Art” in 2016 are testaments to his influence and advocacy for art.

The ongoing exhibition is the result of a collaboration under the auspices of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports. It's a cultural odyssey that bridges the gap between Rando's hometown of Malaga and Shenzhen, supported by various Chinese and Spanish cultural institutions. This event is part of the larger celebration of the golden jubilee of diplomatic ties between China and Spain — a reminder of art's power to bind disparate cultures and epochs together.

Lin Jianping, a photographer from Shenzhen Daily, has captured the grandeur of the exhibition in the included photos. (SD News)
