The link between Serbian people and Shenzhen

For many Serbians, Shenzhen, the city that began its economic reforms in the early 1980s and became China's first special economic zone, is a fresh pleasant discovery.

With one of the globe's biggest and busiest ports, the city has become an appealing destination for foreign direct investment and migrants seeking opportunities, including Serbians.

Serbians who began migrating to Shenzhen after 2010 found that popular global brands such as Huawei, DJI, and BYD, which they had utilized in their everyday lives at home, originate from this city. But only when they start living in an industrial hub like Shenzhen, do they begin to understand that this city has probably the strongest influence on the Chinese economy. After all, as these popular Shenzhen companies are now known around the world, they are having an enormous impact on the world's markets as well.

The relationship between Serbian people and Shenzhen is quite profound. There isn't an official statistic, but it’s recognized that Serbs have more residents in Shenzhen than in other two major Chinese cities — Shanghai and Beijing — which is somewhat surprising, but not really.

Many Serbs found Shenzhen an ideal place for careers, employment, and business opportunities, as well as for family life. Shenzhen has a wonderful geographical position in Guangdong Province, with bright subtropical weather and summer almost all through the year. Surrounded by various green zones, parks, and mountains on one side, and gorgeous coastland with fine beaches on the other hand, this city has a properly constructed structure and great symmetry for a dolce vita lifestyle.

Serbians are drawn to this city for a variety of reasons: Some study at prestigious colleges here, intrigued by the Chinese language and culture, while others are working in international schools, teaching middle and high school students about various natural and social scientific fields. Serbia is well-known for its sporting achievements, so it's no surprise that numerous Serbian basketball, football, and tennis coaches work here as well, attempting to impart valuable skills to Shenzhen children.

More Serbian tourists take advantage of the free immigration policy to visit this city, not merely for the sake of their families or friends, but also for leisure. Shenzhen has so many wonderful tourist attractions, and the city has produced a lot of entertainment during the past 10 years. It offers a variety of theme parks, including Happy Valley, Splendid China • China Folk Culture Villages, Overseas Chinese Town, and Window of the World, as well as convenient visits to other popular cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

What makes Shenzhen a genuinely remarkable metropolis is that it is a city of migrants, and it has created such a comfortable environment in which everyone feels special and creates history alongside this young and fast-paced mentality. So proud people like the Serbs, with their rich but also different culture from China, where they are thousands of miles away from their homeland and where the majority of them have lived for many years, some even for a decade, have developed a special affinity for this city, so it is not surprising that many of them consider Shenzhen a part of their home. As one common saying goes, "Once you come here, you become a Shenzhener."
