In an exciting announcement, the Hong Kong Tourism Board revealed that the first-ever sea fireworks display will light up Victoria Harbor on the evening of May 1, kicking off the “golden week” holiday with a dazzling spectacle.
Starting in May, the Tourism Board plans to regularly introduce sea fireworks and drone shows in coordination with festivals and major events. The debut drone show is set to adorn the night sky over Victoria Harbor on May 11, themed around traditional celebrations to enhance the festive atmosphere.
Dane Cheng, executive director of the Tourism Board, highlighted the significance of the “golden week” as a peak travel period for mainland tourists. With a series of events and activities lined up for May in Hong Kong, the Tourism Board aims to seize this opportunity. The Tourism Board has initiated promotional campaigns targeting the mainland market, notably intensifying efforts in key cities for “individual travel to Hong Kong” such as Xi’an in Shaanxi Province and Qingdao in Shandong Province. Collaborations with payment platforms and integrated consumer information services on the mainland are also in progress to bolster awareness.
The regular sea fireworks and drone shows from May onward will be synchronized with the “A Symphony of Lights” light and music extravaganza, creating a dual visual spectacle to increase the appeal of the events and enhance the unique charm of Victoria Harbor.
Encouraging industry players to capitalize on these events, the Tourism Board urges the introduction of more tourism products like sea tours and fireworks dinners. By enticing visitors to extend their stay in Hong Kong, these initiatives are poised to create business opportunities for sectors such as dining and retail, stimulating consumer spending and enhancing economic benefits.
Announced as part of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s 2024/2025 budget, efforts are underway to establish Hong Kong as a premier destination for business and tourism. The initiative includes monthly fireworks and drone displays as part of the strategy to enhance Hong Kong’s appeal as an attractive destination for visitors worldwide.
