Intelligent triage system launched

Longgang District People’s Hospital, also known as the Second Affiliated Hospital of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen), has successfully launched the country’s first intelligent triage system that utilizes Huatuo GPT technology, according to sznews.com.

This intelligent triage system harnesses the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, integrating both deep learning and natural language processing.

Yu Guangjun, the head of the hospital, highlighted three major advantages of this system over traditional triage systems. First, it allows users to interact through natural dialogue, unlike traditional systems that typically only permit users to make selections. Next, the system utilizes large language models to significantly enhance its accuracy. Lastly, it supports voice input, making it more user-friendly for elderly individuals.

“In the future, the system will not only facilitate intelligent pre-examinations, but also expand to include intelligent pre-consultations, specialist consultations, follow-ups, and quality control of medical records. This enhancement will elevate our intelligent services to a new level,” Yu said.

Citizens can easily access this service by following the hospital’s WeChat account (“lgqyyggwxh”) and navigating to the AI triage section.

Huatuo GPT is an open-source Chinese medical model developed collaboratively by CUHK-Shenzhen and the Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data. It aims to replicate the diagnostic logic of professional doctors and provide comprehensive medical information support.

Plans are in place to implement the system in other hospitals across Shenzhen and to introduce it in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. “The system’s refinement will continue with the accumulation of more data,” Yu said.
