One of the most well-known Japanese anime film directors in China, Makoto Shinkai has garnered accolades for his works including “The Place Promised in Our Early Days,” “5 Centimeters Per Second,” “The Garden of Words,” “Your Name,” and “Weathering with You.” Apart from the subtle expression of complex emotions in these films, they are also acclaimed for their soundtracks, which not only offer auditory pleasure to hear but also significantly enrich the narratives.

If you happen to be a fan of Shinkai’s anime films, you may find interest in an upcoming concert featuring melodies from Shinkai’s works, presented by the This Time Definitely Chamber Orchestra this Sunday.

Acknowledged by Shinkai’s team for its interpretation of melodies from his films, the This Time Definitely Chamber Orchestra comprises seasoned instrumentalists who have graduated from prestigious music schools, either domestically or abroad. It was established based on the Imperial 9 Symphony Orchestra, the first anime fan-founded orchestra in China, which boasts over 290,000 followers on China’s leading online video sharing platform Bilibili.

The concert’s program will include songs and scores from Shinkai’s three films: “5 Centimeters Per Second,” “Your Name,” and “Weathering with You.” Some of the familiar tunes will encompass “One More Time, One More Chance,” “Zenzenzense,” and “Is There Still Anything Love Can Do.” Additionally, two songs from Akiyuki Shinbo’s anime film “Fireworks, Should We See It From the Side or the Bottom” will be featured.

As the familiar melodies flow, hope they can evoke memories of the scenes from the films that once touched your heart.
