Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, visited Shenzhen on April 14-16.

During her visit to BYD in Pingshan District on April 16, she showed keen interest in the carmaker’s CTB (cell-to-body) structural battery system, the Blade Battery Nail Penetration Test, and several vehicles, such as the Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 5, the Yangwang U8, and the Denza D9.

Impressed by Shenzhen’s advancements in carbon neutrality, digital innovation, and intelligent transportation, she lauded the city for its significant measures supporting sustainable development. Shenzhen’s utilization of advanced urban planning to integrate environmental protection, technological innovation, talent attraction, and international openness also left a lasting impression on her.

Alisjahbana expressed her anticipation for Shenzhen to play a more substantial role in advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 6 (clean water and sanitation) and 11 (sustainable cities and communities). She also hoped that Shenzhen would serve as a source of inspiration for other developing nations by sharing its experiences and successful practices.
