The 2024 Shenzhen Design Week, themed “Designs Make Better Lives,” is scheduled to kick off April 27, Liu Wenbin, deputy director of the Shenzhen Design Week Committee Office, announced during a press conference held at the Civic Center in Futian District on Thursday.

The week-long event will feature four key activities: an opening ceremony, a global designers’ roundtable discussion, an international design award ceremony, and a special event honoring award-winning artwork and France, the guest country.

The event will witness the participation of representatives from organizations like the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and the International Council of Design, alongside delegates from regions including Asia, North America, and Europe.

There will also be more than 23 activities showcasing the innovative creations of various brands. Shenzhen’s art galleries will host a series of design exhibitions, according to Lin Qingbo from the Shenzhen Municipal Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau.

Exhibitions include the special China exhibition of Antoni Gaudi, the Catalan architect, at the Sky Museum in Futian. Additionally, the France-China Contemporary Architecture Exhibition and “The Tide Never Recedes: Alphonse Mucha and the Modern World” are now open at the Sea World Culture & Arts Center.

Shenzhen boasts over 22,000 industrial design institutes, with nearly half of them recognized as high-tech companies by national, provincial, or municipal authorities.
