Noncompliant electric vehicles typically rely on lead-acid batteries, known for their short lifespan and environmental impact, causing substantial pollution and posing risks to human health through soil and water contamination during disposal. Given their larger size and higher speeds, noncompliant electric vehicles can exacerbate traffic congestion, leading to disruptions in urban traffic flow and increased maintenance costs due to accelerated road wear.

To bolster electric vehicle management, China will enforce a technical standard focusing on electric vehicle safety beginning May 1. The emphasis will be on rigorously monitoring noncompliant electric vehicles. As per the regulations, noncompliant electric vehicles will be forbidden from operating on roads, with violators facing fines and vehicle confiscation. Moreover, local government bodies will oversee the registration and licensing of electric vehicles to ensure safe operations.

Electric vehicle owners are urged to voluntarily phase out noncompliant electric vehicles in favor of those meeting national standards, acquaint themselves with local electric vehicle management directives, and ensure compliance. Owners should promptly rectify noncompliant vehicles by replacing batteries, tires, or other components to adhere to regulations.
