Art exhibitions and Shenzhen Design Week 2024 sideline events attracted floods of visitors during the May Day holiday, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

A standout feature of the design week is an exhibition at the Rail In Shopping Mall in Nanshan District that showcases a pair of mechanical wings. This key prop from Shenzhen’s latest city image film, “Dare to Be a Pioneer,” is on display alongside the winning works of the Kunpeng Global Design Award 2024.

The mechanical wings are composed of over 700 parts and have a wingspan of nearly 6 meters. A visitor surnamed Chen told the Daily that he saw the pair of wings in a video and decided to see how cool they were in person. “After seeing the wings, I was overwhelmed. It is really a high-tech design,” said Chen.

The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Digital Creative Design Exhibition also drew a large crowd with its striking visual presentations.

An attendee surnamed Yu found the exhibition to be a breath of fresh air, noting that some elements of traditional culture have become more vivid and interesting through the blessing of digital technology.

The Shenzhen Art Museum (new venue) in Longhua District was another popular site for visitors during the holiday. All reservations were fully booked from Wednesday to Saturday, according to the Daily report. Lines of eager attendees, including many families with young children, formed outside the museum even before its doors opened.
