A global showcase of aquatic delights

The Shenzhen International Fisheries and Seafood Expo 2024 concluded at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District yesterday.

Spanning an expansive exhibition area of 45,000 square meters, the expo kicked off Friday and unfolded within two halls, three major sections, and 12 diverse exhibition zones. Boasting a staggering array of over 12,000 aquatic products and processed foods, the event played host to a global gathering featuring about 500 exhibitors representing 24 countries and regions.

Visitors watched a mesmerizing array of performances blending in elements of intangible cultural heritage. They were treated not just to a trade spectacle but also a gastronomic delight, with a tantalizing array of seafood dishes on offer.

This year’s edition introduced a dedicated space for Pacific Island nations alongside participants from the “Belt and Road” countries, extending invitations to established fishing powers like the United States, Russia, Canada, and Mexico.

Statistics show that Shenzhen’s fishery sector saw a 6.8% uptick in 2023, culminating in an impressive output of 87,000 tons. Noteworthy initiatives like the Shenzhen International Tuna Trading Platform and collaborative ventures with key players signify a forward-looking approach towards industry development.

Cutting-edge aquaculture technologies further augment the expo’s allure, with innovative displays such as China National Offshore Oil Corp.’s (CNOOC) LNG cold energy aquaculture project garnering significant interest.

Encompassing forums, summits, and showcases, the expo provides a platform for industry stakeholders to engage, learn, and collaborate.
