After five enriching masterclasses led by the renowned South Korean soprano Sumi Jo, a concert marked the culmination of the four-day music feast at Pingshan Theater on May 19.

During Jo's stay in Pingshan, the First Sumi Jo International Singing Competition (China Region) was held May 16. Following this, 20 professional vocalists participated in Jo’s masterclasses May 17-19. The grand finale featured a concert performed by Jo, her masterclass students, distinguished artists including Chinese tenor Zhang Xiqiu, sopranos Fei Qifang and Yuan Zhen, as well as a local children's choir.

With impeccable artistry, Jo has been acclaimed for possessing “a voice from above” by Herbert von Karajan. She is celebrated for her light, expressive voice and virtuosic performances in major coloratura roles.

In a similar musical exchange last summer, José Carreras, one of the acclaimed “Three Tenors,” graced Pingshan Theater with his vocal expertise during a four-day masterclass event, offering aspiring young Chinese singers a unique opportunity for growth and audience members a feast for the ears.
