Shenzhen Poetry Talk

Physical theater ‘Home’
The Temper Theater, established in 2014 by British director Finn Morell, will present its latest production "Home" to Shenzhen audiences this weekend. This physical theater performance featurs vivid physical movements, seamless storytelling, and remarkable auditory effects, exemplifying the group's characteristics and eliciting profound reflections on the concept of home. It garnered acclaim at last year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tomorrow Festival
Musicians from the U.S., Sweden, Pakistan, Egypt, France, Japan, and China will showcase their distinct musical talents at the festival. A highlight will be Noor Zehra Kazim, the sole Sagar Veena performer globally, who will deliver a talk and a performance. Additionally, a screening highlighting Sumatra in Indonesia will be presented, with the film's director, Alan Bishop, scheduled for a post-screening discussion.

Folk concert with poetry
This concert will be led by Feng Mantian, a master of the ruan, and Pu Cunxin, a national class-A artist from the Beijing People's Art Theater. Feng and his live band will skillfully render six folk songs from various regions and four ancient poems, blending jazz, folk, rock, blues, and other musical elements alongside Pu's poetry recitations.

Paganini Ensemble Vienna concert
The Paganini Ensemble Vienna quartet will present a diverse selection of Niccolò Paganini's works. The concert will include compositions like "Capriccio for Solo Violin, 'Nel cor piu non mi sento' M.S.44" and "Quartet No.1 in A Minor, Op.4 No.1 M.S.28," providing attendees with a glimpse into the world of Paganini's musical legacy.

Exhibition on Arata Isozaki’s architecture
Visitors can explore the design concepts and architectural features in the works of Isozaki, the designer of the iconic Shenzhen Library and Shenzhen Concert Hall, at the retrospective “Arata Isozaki: In Formation.” It showcases the architectural models, sketches, installations, paintings, and videos of the distinguished recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, and traces his evolving thoughts in different periods from multiple perspectives that have defined his remarkable career.

Masters’ paintings
The Guan Shanyue Art Museum, dedicated to collecting, displaying and researching artworks by Guangdong master Guan Shanyue (1912-2000), is currently hosting an exhibition of paintings by Guan and Shandong artist Yu Xining (1913-2007).

UAV expo
More than 4,000 drones from over 500 exhibitors from home and abroad are being showcased at the 9th Shenzhen International UAV Expo. Some competitions such as drone soccer matches, and drone shows can also be found on site. The International Low-Altitude Economy and Unmanned System Expo 2024 and the Autonomous Driving and Unmanned Vehicles Technology Expo 2024 are being held at the same time as well.

Watch fireflies in Xichong
Visitors can admire glow worms at the Xichong International Dark Sky Community in Dapeng New Area as the community enters its ideal season for observing fireflies. These creatures are active from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. between May and July.
The chances of spotting fireflies will increase if visitors wait near grassy areas or in the forests, which are the fireflies’ preferred locations. Recommended spots include the river between Xinwu Village (新屋村) and Yashan Village (芽山村), the river close to the third entrance of Xichong Beach (西涌沙滩三号口), as well as the grasslands and riverside near Xigong Village (西贡村), Getian Village (格田村), and Xiyangwei Village (西洋尾村).

Exhibition unites artistic voices
The “Nomads in the South: Rivers, Tunnels, Dampness and Constellations” exhibition at Pingshan Art Museum showcases contemporary artworks created by 101 artists and organizations in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangxi, Hainan and Chongqing. The exhibition marks the first attempt to explore the contemporary art scenes and culture environments in southern and southwestern China within one single exhibition.
