Two musical troupes from Macao will visit Shenzhen this June and perform alongside local youths at the Beautiful Sunday concerts at Shenzhen Concert Hall.

Hoi Kin-wa, co-founder of MYSO.

This Sunday afternoon, the Macao Sacred Heart Canossian College Orchestra, led by conductor Hoi Kin-wa who founded the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra Association (MYSO) in 1996, will perform Beethoven’s “Fidelio Overture” and Dvořák’s fan-favorite “Symphony No. 9,” also known as “From the New World.”
Beethoven’s only opera “Fidelio” celebrates love and freedom, and the composer wrote four overtures for it. Inspired by American folk music, Dvořák’s 9th symphony was so popular that it became a part of American culture by the mid-20th century. The melodies sound familiar even to people who have never heard it.
