I recently went on an exchange tour to France arranged by one of my teachers. The first day was the most exciting as we were set to visit our new school and meet our host family. We woke up at 6:50 a.m., swiftly packed our luggage, and then boarded the bus to reach the school on time.
During the bus ride, Madame Justine and Mr. Q advised us on how to conduct ourselves in a French household. They emphasized the importance of respecting and savoring the food while maintaining decorum during meals. This taught me valuable lessons about French dining etiquette and table manners.
Upon our arrival at the school, our Chinese teacher, Weiwei, guided us around the premises and introduced us to our host families. Initially, I was worried about paying attention to the table manners and making a positive impression. Luckily, Leo from my host family shared Chinese ancestry, which eased my worries.
Following the family introductions, we delved into the vibrant campus life. Our first activity was lunch at the school cafeteria, where I enjoyed a meal of fish and vegetables that tasted good. Later, we engaged in a two-on-two volleyball match at the indoor stadium, Mond. Despite meeting Leo for the first time, we worked together effectively and won the game.
To foster connections among us, Teacher Weiwei organized a warm-up activity, although memorizing everyone’s names in a short time proved challenging. To overcome this, we started a WeChat group to share amusing anecdotes from our trip. We captured a group photo as a keepsake of our visit.
Reflecting on this wonderful and enriching experience, I not only savored French delicacies and made new friends but also felt motivated to explore diverse cultures in the world. I will embrace every opportunity to learn more about our fantastic world in the future.
