With temperatures on the rise and rainfall abundant, snakes are becoming more active outdoors in Shenzhen and residents are urged to remain vigilant.

Varieties of snakes, including venomous species like gold-ringed  snakes, silver-ringed snakes, five-pace snakes, cobras, and even king cobras, are prevalent in Shenzhen. Among these, bamboo vipers and cobras are the most common snakes in the city.

Residents are advised to steer clear of parks during sunset and early morning hours, as snakes often seek refuge in vegetated regions like dense grassy lawns in parks, residences near mountains, and green areas bordering roads.

To minimize the risk of snake bites, it is recommended to safeguard exposed skin by donning long-sleeved shirts, long trousers, high-top shoes, and hats when venturing into forested areas.

In case of a snake bite, individuals should check immediately for swelling, excessive bleeding, or necrotic tissue surrounding the wound. If bitten, everyone present should vacate the area swiftly. The wound must be bandaged, kept below heart level, and the victim should be rushed to a hospital.
