The EWC International Competition Training Base, organized by the Peace Elite League (PEL), commenced operations June 19 at the Pingshan Innovation Center. The base offers advanced training to two PEL teams gearing up for the 2024 Esports World Cup (EWC), scheduled to take place from July 3 to Aug. 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

A supervisor overseeing the training expressed optimism, drawing parallels to a last year experience when the national esports team underwent training in Pingshan for the 19th Asian Games. They anticipate that the current training program will elevate the teams’ tactical prowess and competitive performance.

The EWC stands as a prestigious multi-genre esports tournament, promising this year’s largest prize pool in esports history. It will showcase a diverse array of the most popular esports titles spanning various gaming genres. The event will see top global clubs vying for victory across 19 esports titles, including prominent games like PEL, Dota 2, and League of Legends. Notably, a new cross-game competition format will be introduced, recognizing outstanding performances in individual game titles as well as by clubs.

Esports encompass a fusion of sports, competition, technology, entertainment, social media, and culture, spearheading Pingshan’s digital economy into a new era. With Shenzhen aspiring to establish itself as an international esports hub, Pingshan is swiftly amassing esports industry resources, enhancing its industrial ecosystem, and propelling the progress of esports development.

In recent years, significant strides have been made in fortifying Pingshan’s esports infrastructure. The Super Gen Esports Training Center was launched in Pingshan in 2021. Subsequently, in 2023, the national esports team was trained in Pingshan for the 19th Asian Games and then clinched four gold medals and one bronze. More recently, in June 2024, Netease’s Identity V League’s MRC club settled in Pingshan.
