The Shenzhong (Shenzhen-Zhongshan) Link, a mega cross-sea infrastructure project that connects cities on both sides of the Pearl River Estuary, opened to traffic June 30. This development has drastically reduced the travel duration between Shenzhen and Zhongshan to around 30 minutes, a significant improvement from the previous two-hour journey.

Located in the core area of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the 24-kilometer link includes a 6.85-kilometer sea tunnel, a 17.2-kilometer above-sea bridge, and two artificial islands.

China Construction Steel Structure Co. Ltd., located in Pingshan District, was in charge of producing and building the FJ2 steel structure on the Western Artificial Island, a key project linking the above-sea bridge and the sea tunnel.

With a total construction area of 34,000 square meters, the structure on Western Artificial Island functions as a science research base and an office space for the management of the link. The steel structure was manufactured on an intelligent production line in Huizhou City, boasting a corrosion-resistant coating to withstand heavy levels of humidity and salinity.

To tackle challenges like precise control difficulties and a tight construction schedule, a multi-point measurement approach was adopted to ascertain the quality of lifting and welding operations. The project team also successfully enhanced the installation process, ensuring a 50% increase in efficiency while maintaining stringent safety standards.

Affiliated to China Construction Science and Industry Corporation Ltd., China Construction Steel Structure Co. Ltd. is recognized as a national high and new technology company, a national manufacturing single champion demonstration enterprise, and a world-class demonstration enterprise.

Among the company's notable projects are the El Ferdan Railway Bridge on the Suez Canal in Egypt, the world's longest rotating metal bridge; and the Guojiatuo Yangtze River Bridge in Chongqing, China's largest-span public-rail dual-use suspension bridge.
