The plan for an extension of Shenzhen Metro Line 14 to the city of Huizhou has been suspended, while efforts to start construction on Metro lines to Dongguan are underway, the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission (DRC) announced on its official WeChat account Sunday.
During a recent radio program, Zheng Tiejun, deputy director-general of the Shenzhen DRC, discussed intercity rail transit construction in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Zheng stated that, according to national regulations, Huizhou does not currently meet the conditions necessary for urban rail transit construction. As a result, the extension of Metro Line 14 to Huizhou cannot commence at this time.

However, the Shenzhen DRC is committed to considering public suggestions and will maintain close communication with Huizhou to conduct preliminary planning for the extension of Line 14. Once Huizhou meets the required conditions, efforts will be made to push for approval and construction, according to Zheng.
In contrast, plans for extending Shenzhen Metro Line 10 eastward to Fenggang in Dongguan are progressing. Zheng noted that the branch line of Shenzhen Line 6 has already reached the Shenzhen-Dongguan border. The eastward extension of Line 10 and the northward extension of Line 11 within Shenzhen have received national approval.
The Shenzhen DRC will continue to actively cooperate with Dongguan to complete the approval process, aiming for the intercity rail sections within Dongguan to receive national approval and begin construction as soon as possible, Zheng said.
