Nanshan District ranked first among the top 100 districts of cities in China in terms of economic high-quality development, according to a report released by CCID Consulting Urban Economic Research Center on Aug. 2, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

Nanshan has topped the list for the seventh straight year. Three other districts in Shenzhen, namely Futian, Bao’an, and Longgang, were also among the top 10.

The report used statistical data to select the top 100 districts in China, adopting 23 indicators to evaluate the development of districts in 902 cities (excluding municipalities directly under the Central Government, State-level new zones, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) from five aspects.

The report has set two thresholds for entry, namely, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the district must exceed 80 billion yuan (US$11.2 billion) and its general public budget revenue must surpass 2 billion yuan.

In 2023, Nanshan recorded 124,000 valid invention patents in China, accounting for 41.3% of the city’s total. The number of invention patents per 10,000 people stood at 685.4, which was four times the city’s average level and 23.6 times the national average level, according to statistics.

In the first half of 2024, Nanshan’s GDP exceeded 449.53 billion yuan, up by 5% year on year.

The added value of the district’s secondary industry was 124.54 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%, while the added value of the tertiary industry was 324.95 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%.
