New scientific research spaces spanning 72,000 square meters in the Shenzhen park of the Hetao Shenzhen Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone will soon be ready for use in the development of emerging industries in Futian District.

This batch of research facilities, completed on the first anniversary of the unveiling of the development plan for the Shenzhen park of the zone, hasbeen specifically designed for the research of emerging technologies, including materials science, biomedicine and artificial intelligence (AI).

Notably, the headquarters building of the International Digital Economy Academy (IDEA) is one of the new research facilities ready to be put into use.

The IDEA currently boasts approximately 400 researchers, led by 10 top scientists from around the world, who are engaged in the R&D for AI, digital economy and low-altitude economy through an integrated development model of research, industry and investment.

The Material Science Research Institute of the City University of Hong Kong, jointly built by Shenzhen and Hong Kong, will be established as a high-level international research hub for a team of top-notch talents engaged in cutting-edge fundamental research and innovation.

According to the Hetao Development Authority, which oversees the planning and construction of world-leading research and development spaces for Hetao’s research institutes and high-tech enterprises, they aim to attract international top sci-tech resources to settle in the area.

For example, specialized treatment has been implemented to enhance ventilation in certain spaces to meet experimental environment requirements. Recyclable and low-reflective façade materials were utilized in the construction of these structures to support low-carbon, sustainable development within the Shenzhen park. In addition, special attention was given to ensure a high level of efficiency and environmental friendliness for researchers.

This batch of spaces is part of the “One Core Two Wings”layout of high-quality research facilities meticulously designed in the Hetao Shenzhen park. Currently, the western wing of the park has 13 specialized zones, providing nearly 800,000 square meters of research space, while the eastern wing is under construction and development.
